STAY READY BY Shalena Broaster
I caught the tail end of the Monique Show on BET the other night just before the credits rolled. In her loud, boisterous voice she yelled, “And if you don’t remember nothing else from this show today, remember this: STAY READY ‘CAUSE IF YOU STAY READY YOU WON’T HAVE TO GET READY!”
I pondered her words for a while and asked God to reveal its meaning for my life. When I woke up the next day, I recalled the Bible story of the five virgin bridesmaids who were waiting for the groom to arrive. In short, these women all had lamps that needed to be lit with oil when the groom arrived. Four of the virgins had their lamps lit with oil when he arrived, but one of them did not. For parents who truly love their children, one of the most painful things to endure is watching your child suffer with an illness or injury. Don’t Concede the Day

How many times have you started your day and encountered problem after problem? Maybe the kids are acting like they don’t want to get ready for school, you burn the eggs and toast for breakfast, you miss your bus, you rip your stockings, you get splashed by a car whizzing down the street, someone cuts you off in your lane, the woman at Dunkin Donuts makes your coffee the wrong way, your co-worker rolls their eyes at you for no reason, your boss doesn’t acknowledge you, etc. Usually when we have “bad mornings” like these we shake our heads and think, “This is going to be one of those days.”
Last week, I had a similar morning like the one I just described. KC acted as though he didn’t want to leave the house so he fell out on the ground and screamed to the top of his lungs. This annoyed me because I was in a hurry and needed to be at the office at a certain time. Once I got him under control, we ran into a traffic jam. Once the traffic ... (more)
